After some little bumps the migration of the wiki went well. But what is the effect?

The wiki should be much faster
There will be proper backup
The URLs changed (but the old URLs will be properly redirected - no old link will be broken)
The write protection now uses recaptcha to help digitize old books by editing in the wiki
New plugins and editing possibilities are available (see the version page and seen the editing help).
The wiki features now some Google ads. Hosting costs some money and the ads are an effeort to finance this. So please click some ads.

Again, if you see anything unusal - leave a note in the comments.

I updated the wiki some minutes ago to the lates version. Hopefully it worked (the update itself had some minor problems). If there is any problem leave a remak in the comments!

New Solar Circuits

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has released a big article about how to use solar power. Not specific BEAMish (i.e. no classical solar engine). But still very useful. And if you make something BEAMish out of it - put it in the wiki!

BEAM WIKI grows up!

The BEAM Wiki is now nearly two years old! Thank you for that!

It grew from a whopping 57 visitors in October 2006 to 2485 visitors in September 2008! Thank you for that.

I would especially thank anybody who contributed, linked or used the wiki. I can see that my aim to give the BEAM community a information base to make BEAM easier is slowly starting to work - and I am very happy about it.

A special thanks goes to DROIDMAKR! He contributed so much in the recent months (and got sysop - after I got it right). I hope he will be around some time to improve the wiki and help anybody to use and enhance it.

But after all I can only encourage anybody to share his/her designs, add his/her 5 cents to any content in the wiki.

One not so nice thing is coming up on the horizon: If the traffic is climbing as steadiliy as it is currently I would be very happy - but have to pay more for hosting. If this happens I think I will either add Google Ads to the pages or ask for donations (currently are the hosting costs something like 15$/month). If you prefer one or the other - just leave a comment.

First sysop of the BEAM wiki

Today I warmly welcome Droidmakr as the first sysop of the BEAM wiki. I really cannot count the pages he has added in the last weeks. Despite the fact he has a very interesting BEAM site of his own he decided to make this wiki one of the best BEAM resources available!
Big thanks to him and I hope many will follow.

(Update: I found out that sysop is the right group - silly me)

Today I installed a captcha and antispam plugin. Let see if this keeps spammers at bay.

But in the end you do not have the need to register anymore to edit pages. I hope this makes things easier for you!

Ooops, yes you have to do some little math before you can save your edits - but I hope thats OK.

After a very unhappy downtime I am currently working to put a bit life back into this site. I hope to find more time to blog about BEAM (but guest bloggers are more than welcome - just leave a comment). But there are pprobably better Beam Blogs out there. So feel free to add your site to the BEAM Sites section of the wiki.

An while you are at it check out the Community Portal, there is always something in bad shape or missing in the Wiki. I am happy about any contribution to the wiki. I always needs description of bots and tutorials.

After long weeks of technical problems (I f* up the wiki upgrade) everything is restored again. Unfortunately you have still to register with your e-mail address in order ot edit content (an quite improper attempt to keep spammers down - I still get something like 10 spam pages a day - but at least they must manually create it).
