  • British Spelling:Analogue
  • Straight from the wikipedia entry:
Analogue electronics (or analog in American English) are those electronic
systems with a continuously variable signal. In contrast, in digital
electronics signals usually take only two different levels. The term
"analogue" describes the proportional relationship between a signal and
a voltage or current that represented the signal.
.
Basically, an analogue circuit works with signals that can vary between
VCC and Ground, while digital only works with VCC and Ground.
A tiny fluctuation in voltage is meaningful in an analogue circuit, while
it is not in a digital circuit, which would ignore the change.
.
Digital is slowly phasing analogue out in the mainstream, as Digital
IC's can be built much smaller, and design of a digital circuit can
be automated much easier, along with the fact that slight noise in analogue
circuits can cause major problems.
