A capacitive sensing element backed by an active reflector element. The reflctor element acts as a shield to reflect field lines. Capacitive coupling between the sensor element and the object being detected causes a change in the frequency of an oscillator. As the object moves closer, the capacitance increases causing the oscillator frequency to decrease. This allows objects to be detected at varying ranges.

Richard Caudle developed a BEAMish version that he called the NuFlector, though it is generally also called a capaciflector by most BEAMers.
