A circuit or device that has been constructed to integrate (usually with respect to time) an incoming signal or series of signals. This operation can be performed in the continuous-time using an analog circuit, or approximated (simulated) in discrete-time steps using digital techniques.

An integrator typically acts like a low pass filter, but can be given an offset so that it will accumulate a value over time. That value can build up until it reaches the maximum limit of the system or (in some cases) overflows.

[edit] BEAM Example

The resistor and capacitor of a neural neuron or (Nu), form a simple integrator circuit. When the accumulated charge crosses the threshold(s) of the inverter the output of the inverter will switch to its opposite state, which will also be opposite that of the incoming signal.
