1) A relationship between input and output wherein the output will vary in direct proportion to the input.
2) In regards to a transistor, the linear operating region is where the collector-emitter current is related to the base current by a simple scale factor, enabling the transistor to act as an amplifier while preserving the fidelity of analog signals.
3) Linear is also used to describe regions of any mathematical or physical function that follows a straight line with an arbitrary slope.
