In BEAM robotics this generally refers to utilizing BEAM neurons, networks and circuits to interpret, and manipulate signals and to use the results to influence the behavior of other BEAM neurons, networks and circuits, and ultimately BEAMrobots.
The kinds of signals that are processed include those from sensors, other neurons, microcontrollers (see: Horse and Rider) and/or similar sources.
Processing techniques that have been used by BEAMers include filtering, timing, and even storing (in some relatively simple form) certain events, relationships, and/or sucessful responses to particular conditions See: Bruce Robinson's Learning Robots.
