Put simply, Robotics is the art, science of designing and building robots.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term robotics was coined by author Issac Asimov. He first used the word robotics in his 1942 short story "Runaround", in which he also first introduced the "Three Laws of Robotics"

Robotics is a multi-disciplinary endeavour involving a variety of skills and understanding of many subjects, including: Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics,and Mechanics as well as Mathematics, not to mention the ability to study, and do good research,.

Potentially skills in the areas of machining, welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc., will also come into play.
