- A detectable change in the internal or external environment.
- A cause of excitation or inhibition of a neuron.
- A form of energy or force that causes a sensor to produce an electrical signal.
Note:
A stimulus is often the first component of a homeostatic control system.
When applied to a sensory receptor, a stimulus will typically elicit or influence a reflex.
